Check out how Day 2 went.
Day 3's theme was "COLLECT". I was not sure if I wanted to stick to the theme today or not. But as I started to bring out my tools and pens (the ones who called me "Poop du Jour" the other day) I decided to try something new with those themes:
to meditate on them and see what they teach me.
I am quite the collector. I have moleskins upon moleskins and Evernotes and journals and sketch books of ideas. I have notebooks reserved for longer ideas and notebooks reserved for shorter ideas. And then I have my iPad with hundreds of GarageBand music ideas I've written over the years. A lot of them were like dreams. They came out of no where like they're free gifts.
I can see the benefit of becoming an idea machine through collecting ideas. And I don't think each and every single one of my ideas need to be turned into an epic product. But with every idea I came up with over the years, they always just stopped there. They just remained as unfinished ideas.
I can't help but wonder whether my collecting was more like hoarding. Where my satisfaction was more in the act of hoarding and storing these unfinished dreams with a net rather than actually seeing them go wherever they need to go.
Perhaps to be a good steward to these gifts of dreams is to stop treating them like something that I own. Something that should only elevate my heavy weight and serve me and my ego. My ego is my net. Perhaps, in order to see the possibility of where they may go, they need to be given their freedom.
